Interiors present their own special challenge. I like to use natural
light in most cases, and will mix multiple exposures and some time in
digital retouch to create the right atmosphere.

When Mount Pinatubo erupted
in 1991 it killed hundreds and displaced
thousands. The lava kept flowing for years, burying a huge swathe of
