Still rushing to get my commitment of 120 pictures to Air Mauritius by the weekend. So every day I inspect, process and retouch up to 12 or 15 pictures. Some take 20 minutes, others can take hours. Some I spend ages on and then abandon out of boredom or because I have a better idea.
And then sometimes it all comes together very quickly. But that usually depends on it being a great shot when the shutter goes down.
This is one of my favourites from the trip. I was in Mahebourg, which is in the SE corner of the island, hunting for faces to add to Air Mauritius' internal documents, annual report and the like. Down by the river I was setting up a landscape shot when this lady walked out of her tiny little house. In my terrible French I explained what I was doing and she graciously allowed me to take a portrait. Natural light, very little retouch. I love the history in her face juxtaposed with the bright green of the house,
The second shot was taken as the light was fading on the South Coast. I stopped at a beach and was instantly surrounded by kids wanting to have their photo taken. Some people are just born to be in front of the camera. |
